BEI Security’s new long range sensor system utilizes a newly developed patent pending technology called Reflected Light Time Differential (RLTD). RLTD offers a unique and easily deployed intrusion detection system utilizing a single mode fiber optic cable and a single head end controller. The system is capable of protecting perimeters up to 100 kilometers in length with a single fiber. With this break through in performance, the system offers major cost reduction over other fiber solutions.
The BEI RLTD terminates both ends of the fiber into the control sensor electronics at the head end. By doing so, we now have two complete paths to examine signals. Since we are looking at two signal paths, it eliminates false echoes and allows the system to make very precise time differential measurements as to the location of the disturbances (within ±10 meters). By increasing the sampling frequency we can further zero in on the exact disturbance location.
When used for protection of long borders, or perimeters exceeding 100 kilometers, the RLTD single mode fiber optic cable is attached to an existing barrier or fence and looped back to the head end (as shown below) in 50 kilometer increments. The disturbance detection identification zones remain at the normal ±10 meters for precise intrusion detections. Alternatively, the product can also be buried for invisible protection.
The head end receives the laser signals and reacts to the variations in the infrared lasers return signal. The head end controller is connected to a PC via a USB or RS232 connection to receive and process the signal to determine if an intrusion event has taken place. The software that interfaces to the controller provides a graphical representation of the perimeter and denotes the location of the incursion.

What is FiberSensor™ ?OptiLoop Property Protection
What is OptiLoop?
A variable length single fiber optic cable with ST connectors is threaded through the property to be protected. Infrared coded light is pulsed through the cable. Any attempt to remove the protected property will activate an alarm or monitor signal. A disconnection or breakage of the cable will produce visual and audible alarms for immediate response.
Derived from BEI Security's unique FiberNetTM continuity sensor technology, the system is false alarm free and is easy to install and maintain. Like the FiberNetTM, the OptiLoop offers a 99.99% Probability of Detection plus a virtually zero false alarm rate!
Any attempt to cut or remove the cable will create an alarm condition in the OptiLoop system, which will result in detection.
Why use OptiLoop technology?
BEI's economical OptiLoop technology offers a unique and easily deployed intrusion and theft detection system with a fiber optic cable control box. It contains a long-life light transmitter and receiver, terminated with ST connectors. We built a system you can depend on.
How can it help you or your organization?
This economical solution for reducing, or even eliminating, loss of property makes for a sensible investment. Whether the items to be protected are in-house or out in the field, the OptiLoop system keeps them secure with the innovative use of fiber optics.
What applications is OptiLoop used for?
Any company asset can be maintained in an OptiLoop network for protection and security using FiberNet™ technology. Company computers, office equipment, HD flat panel TV's, vehicles, heavy equipment, warehouse inventory, boats, and virtually all company vehicles can be protected.
Installation Application
- The OptiLoop controller is housed in a portable plastic box. It is powered by a local DC power supply or by AC power.
- The OptiLoop can be monitored from a central alarm system, or can be interfaced to a local alarm panel.
- The OptiLoop cable sensor can monitor virtually any removable object through the innovative use of fiber optic technology.

|
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
The SmartFence is an innovative integration of fiber-optic net and cable that operates on the principle of light disturbance. The components include the FiberNet, which detects any attempted intrusion by cutting, and the FiberSensor which detects intrusion attempts by sensing motion and vibration disturbance.
The cable is installed in a split plastic conduit to provide uniform detection and to enhance sensitivity to any fence motion disturbance. Coded infrared (IR) light is sent through the FiberSensor cables from IR transmitters to IR receivers. Any attempted intrusion will trigger an alarm and monitors in the System Command Center will display and record the intruded zone and all related data.

PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
The FiberNet technology is a uniquely structured fiber-optic system comprised of a fiber-optic woven net. Each FiberNet zone is comprised of a single woven fiberoptic cable. Coded infrared (IR) light is sent through the fiber-optic cable; a cut in the cable, breaking the light path, will trigger an alarm. The FiberNet is generally comprised of two uniquely structured sections of fiber-optic net, a lower section for cutthrough protection, and an optional upper outrigger section (FiberNet XL).
FiberNet XL combines the fiber-optic woven net with an upper outrigger section to protect against cutting and climbing over. It incorporates state of the art transducers and heavy duty fiber optic cable stretched between the transducers and inserted into the upper loops of the net. This part is slanted, to prevent the use of ladders.
Any attempt to cut through or climb over this upper outrigger will trigger an alarm.
The pressure sensitivity on this section can also be adjusted to accommodate a balance between security and environmental conditions.

FiberSensorTM Perimeter Intrusion Detection is BEI Security's high performing, cost-effective security system designed for low to medium security risk installations. FiberSensor™ detects intrusion attempts at existing fence or palisade barriers by means of motion and vibration disturbance. To provide uniform detection and to enhance sensitivity, the sensor cable is attached to the existing fence by steel wire ties.
What is FiberSensor™ ?
The FiberSensorTM is a versatile system based on the use of fiber optic sensor cables. Intrusion attempts are detected by motion and vibration disturbance in the light transmission through the fiber optic cable. It can be installed on an existing perimeter fence or barrier or buried underground.
Why use our fiber optic technology?
BEI Security researched and developed the patents for our fiber optic security to be the best in the field of perimeter security. Our durable fiber optic technology can withstand all outdoor elements, from extreme freezing cold to deep ocean bottom depths. We build a cable you can depend on.
How can FiberSensor™ help you or your organization?
Increasing the protection of your secured perimeter is the primary function of FiberSensorTM. It's an intelligent fence designed to detect if, and where, your perimeter is being penetrated. With variable length detection zones of up to 6,500 feet in length, FiberSensorTM will tell you precisely where the perimeter disturbance detection is occurring.
What applications is FiberSensor™ used for?
Any perimeter or barrier that needs an added layer of detection security is a candidate for FiberSensorTM technology. Industrial plants, nuclear plants, power plants, water treatment facilities, prisons, jails, military bases, commercial property, oil refineries, border protection, government buildings and airports are all potential users of these products.
How FiberSensor™ works:
Coded infrared (IR) light is sent through the cable sensors from IR transmitters and is received by IR receivers. Any attempted intrusion such as cutting, climbing or walking above the FiberSensorTM will be detected by an interruption in light transmission and will trigger an alarm in the Command Center that will locate and identify the intruded zone.
A Laser Diode (transmitter) launches continuous wave light into a fiber optic cable. It appears at the end of the fiber optic as a speckle pattern of light and dark patches. Under steady conditions this speckle pattern is stationary. When pressure or vibration is applied close to the sensor it causes the fiber optic to deflect and redistribute the light speckle pattern. This movement or ‘twinkling’ of the speckle pattern is detected by a Photo-Diode (receiver). The output is electronically processed and fed to a relay that causes an alarm to be activated. Any attempt to cut through or climb over the barrier will trigger an alarm. The pressure sensitivity on each section can also be adjusted to accommodate a balance between security and prevailing environmental conditions.
What You Should Know:
The fiber is sensitive to cuts, vibration and when it is moved, it sends a coded signal and notifies exactly where it was cut or moved.
